Bandwidth refers to the amount of data transfer you are allotted. Everytime someone visits your website and a page loads, there is data transferred. When the page loads and images download, or text downloads, data is transferred.

The higher your traffic to your site, or the more graphic intensive it is (like a Flash site), the more bandwidth you will require.
